FLASHBACK 2018| 18 best Hindi songs of this year
It’s the season to make lists.
Among the many that we have made is also the list of our favourite Hindi songs from 2018. Out of them, we have cherry-picked 18 for you. Take a look:
Nainowale Ne, Padmaavat
Nainowale Ne from Padmaavat, composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is one of the most melodious songs we have had in Bollywood in a long time. While Neeti Mohan’s vocals have an intoxicating charm, Siddharth-Garima’s lyrics create absolute magic. Sample this: “Main behosh, tu nasha, aisi moh ki dasha, mere chain rain nain apne saath le gaya.”
Khalibali, Padmaavat
Khalibali from Padmaavat is a musical and lyrical triumph. The high-energy track, composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, makes excellent use of Shivam Pathak’s tinkling yet powerful voice. Lyricist AM Turaz mixes Arabic with Urdu to create a poetic flavour that is scented with royalty.
Tera Yaar Hoon Main, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety
Tera Yaar Hoon Main from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a sweet and simple song on friendship. Composed by the ever-reliable Rochak Kohli, the track, written by Kumaar, tugs at your heartstrings and how! Arijit Singh’s heartfelt voice takes it to another level.
Bas Tu Hai, 3 Storeys
Bas Tu Hai from 3 Storeys is easily one of the most underrated songs of this year. Composer Clinton Cerejo gives a Western touch to Puneet Krishna’s smooth-sailing words and together, what they create feels like winter sun. Arijit Singh makes the song his own with his soulful voice.
Ae Watan (Male), Raazi
Ae Watan (Male) from Raazi is what an ideal patriotic song should be like. Lyricist Gulzar absolutely does away with jingoism here. Instead, he turns Ae Watan into a poignant prayer for the nation. Arijit Singh lives each and every word of the song that is gorgeously composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
Qasam Kha Li, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero
An Amit Trivedi composition, Qasam Kha Li from Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is another underrated song that came out in 2018. While Amitabh Bhattacharya’s words are inspiring, Papon’s vocals pierce your heart.
Ishq Di Baajiyaan, Soorma
Another Shankar Ehsaan Loy triumph, Ishq Di Baajiyaan from Soorma has an old world charm to it, thanks to the earthy lyrics by Gulzar and innocent singing by Diljit Dosanjh. The song captures the fragrance of a village romance and does so beautifully.
Dhadak Title Track
Rendered in the utterly sweet voices of Ajay Gogavale and Shreya Ghoshal, the Dhadak title track has pure love sprinkled all over it. The music director duo of Ajay-Atul create a heavenly tune that lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya does full justice to. “Jo meri manzilein ko jaati hai, tere naam ki koi sadak hai na” is one of the most romantic lines we got to hear in a Hindi song this year.
Chota Sa Fasana, Karwaan
Chota Sa Fasana from the Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salman and Mithila Palkar-starrer Karwaan is a breath of fresh air. While Akarsh Khurana’s lyrics invoke wanderlust in you, Anurag Saikia’s music makes you feel alive. Arijit Singh does his job to perfection.
Nazar Na Lag Jaaye, Stree
Laced with easy-breezy lyrics by Vayu, Nazar Na Lag Jaaye from Stree is quite a hummable song. While Sachin-Jigar’s composition is thoroughly enjoyable, Ask King’s unusual vocals are lovely.
Aahista, Laila Majnu
Without an ounce of doubt, Aahista from Laila Majnu is the best song of the year. While Niladri Kumar weaves magic with his composition, Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi do an impeccable job behind the microphone. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics are divine.
Hafiz Hafiz, Laila Majnu
Another track from Laila Majnu that has made it to the list of our 18 favourite songs this year is Hafiz Hafiz. To express the state of mind of a fierce and passionate lover, composer Niladri Kumar keeps the tempo high but not without placing the song’s heart at the right place. With his carefree vocals, Mohit Chauhan adds his alluring charm to the song. Irshad Kamil does the same with his words. Sample this line: “Main asal mein tu hoon, teri naqal nahi.”
O Meri Laila, Laila Majnu
And yes, finally an Atif Aslam song appears on our list. Composed by Joi Barua, O Meri Laila from Laila Majnu is a happy song, that on occasions, surprises with its sheer energy. Co-sung by Jyotica Tangri, the song has lyricist Irshad Kamil describing the folklore of Laila Majnu in his own unique way.
Daryaa, Manmarziyaan
A stupendous composition by Amit Trivedi, Daryaa from Manmarziyaan is a song of highs and lows, literally. While low notes are shouldered by the velvet-voiced Shahid Mallya, Amy Virk takes care of the power-packed high notes. Lyricist Shellee’s words are simple yet impactful.
Chonch Ladhiyaan, Manmarziyaan
Chonch Ladhiyaan from Manmarziyaan is a song that wins in every department. While Amit Trivedi’s melody leaves a sweet smile on your face, Shellee’s words carry the aroma of youthful love, that go straight into your heart. Behind the microphone are Jazim Sharma and Harshdeep Kaur, who infuse soul into Chonch Ladhiyaan with their unadulterated voices.
Wo Ladki, AndhaDhun
In a black comedy thriller such as AndhaDhun, Wo Ladki rather got lost. Supported by the piano, accordion, keyboards and strings, Wo Ladki remains darkly menacing for the most part. While Arijit Singh aces the song, lyricist Jaideep Sahni is in his top form. Sahni, the master of similes, stirs you with his words. Sample this: “Dhoop mein palkon ko kass ke woh meechti, chalti ho zindagi ke kash kahin kheenchti.”
Jaan Nisaar (Female), Kedarnath
Jaan Nisaar (Female) from the recently-released Kedarnath has the oh-so-wonderful Asees Kaur on the vocals, who, with her deep and intense voice, makes an impression right from the first note. Amit Trivedi’s composition is first-rate, whereas lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya are lovely.
Mere Naam Tu, Zero
Last but definitely not the least is Mere Naam Tu from Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, a song that does full justice to the superstar’s image of a romantic hero. Rendered in the microphone-ready voice of Abhay Jodhpurkar, the song is brilliantly composed by Ajay-Atul. Irshad Kamil creates a prepossessing fantasy world with his words. This line from the song takes the cake: “Mere hi ghere mein ghoomegi har pal tu aise, sooraj ke ghere mein rehti hai dharti ye jaise. Payegi tu khud ko na mujhse juda, tu hai mera aadha sa hissa sada.”

As an actor, as a person, Alia is – what’s the right word? – flowing right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something that I’m aspiring to for myself. It’s new for us, so let it cook a bit.” Not only this, the two also have the approval of their respective parents. On being asked about the same, Rishi Kapoor had said, “Neetu likes her, I like her, Ranbir likes her. Get it?” while Mahesh Bhatt also stood in unison and told The Telegraph “of course they’re in love. Actress Sunny Leone
New Delhi: Adult film star-turned-Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, who is often a target of sexist and disparaging remarks by people, says she is disturbed when "nonsense" gets highlighted. "I always try to push negativity aside, but there are some things which I can't because I am also a human and I have feelings.
"I get disturbed when the media exaggerates and highlights things that they know is nonsense and can hurt people. If radical, violent groups are not given attention then maybe this world would be a better place to live in," Sunny told IANS over email.
Despite paving a successful path for herself in Bollywood, Sunny attracts malicious comments from several people, especially on social media. But their wrath and hatred cannot stop Sunny as she knows how to "protect herself". Sometimes, she even has to answer "judgmental as well as misogynistic" questions thrown at her by journalists.
She said: "Each situation is different and I always like to give the journalist the benefit of the doubt, but I have worked up the courage to throw something back at them. I know how to make them equally feel uncomfortable or really bad. So then it stops there usually. I don't know any other way to protect myself than to speak up."
Before making her Bollywood debut with Pooja Bhatt's 2012 thriller Jism 2, Sunny participated in the controversial reality television series Bigg Boss. Later, she featured in movies like Ragini MMS 2, Ek Paheli Leela, Kuch Kuch Locha Hai, Mastizaade and Tera Intezaar.
Earlier this year, she even launched a digital series titled Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone, based on her life. Was it tough to depict her real life on screen?
"I did not know where to begin on my emotional journey... I had no idea it would affect me this way... I cried every day, wondering if this was the right path I (was) supposed to take.
"I still wonder sometimes, but the positive outcome has been great and that's when I knew it was okay to take this path. And I believe there is more to come."
Apart from films and shows, Sunny recently performed a dance number in Bangladeshi musician Taposh's music video titled Lovely accident, which is produced under her and her husband Daniel Weber's production banner SunCity Media and Entertainment.
Talking about the song, Sunny said: "I am very excited about this song because the music is original and very catchy. Taposh Sir came to us and said he wanted to create a song and have us run production. He really likes the way Daniel does business. "... At the end of the day, we have no idea how people will react to it but we all worked hard and absolutely no funny business."

Indian power couple, Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal, tied the knot on December 12 and their pre-wedding festivities, wedding ceremonies and star-studded reception parties was all the internet could talk about in the past few days. While photographs and videos from their pre-wedding bashes in Udaipur had already taken over the internet, fresh photos from the wedding featuring the Bollywood biggies later took the web by storm.
In the photos that surfaced later, the entire Bollywood brigade including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan were seen serving food to the guests. While the wedding guests were seated at the dining tables, the Bollywood superstars were photographed serving them one dish after another.
The photos and videos went viral within no time inviting a mixed reaction from the internet. While some trolled the celebrities, others praised them for their kind gestures. A few others were in shock as to why the celebrities were serving food. To put all jokes and questions to rest, Abhishek Bachchan took to social media and answered a user who had asked: “Why were Amir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan serving food in Ambani wedding?”. It's a season of weddings in Bollywood. In just a year, there have been four big Bollywood weddings and here's what Katrina Kaif has to say about them in an exclusive interview with ZoomTV.com
VIDEO: Katrina talks about the wedding season in Bollywood
Last year in December, Anushka Sharma tied the wedding knot with Virat Kohli which set the ball rolling and since then have seen as many as four big celeb weddings. From Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh to Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas, India's been obsessed with the big weddings. Katrina Kaif, who is busy promoting her upcoming film Zero, recently revealed that she was one of the last persons to leave their wedding reception.
In an exclusive interview with ZoomTV.com, Katrina Kaif was asked if she, like many people, like to keep a track of the wedding pictures that make its way to the internet, mostly Instagram. Also read: EXCLUSIVE | Katrina Kaif spills the beans on who among Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman intimidated her - watch
She said,
Luckily on Instagram you have a feed right, so it comes automatically. With our schedules, it's hard to always do that and I think it's important for my mind to not constantly go somewhere else. It's important for me to be where I am working right now. But often always I got to see it. Also, my team's with me, so they'll show me, "Oh, look look, yeh abhi aaya", be it wedding or sangeet. So, they'll come and show me, because I think everyone loves to see a moment and wedding is one of those special moments which come in your life and it's a big deal, you know. And it looks beautful, you feel a little sentimental at those moments.
They've all had such beautiful weddings. I feel very happy for all of them. They are all my colleagues from Anushka's wedding to Sonam's wedding which was....very beautiful. And Deepika and Ranveer's wedding now and Priyanka and Nick's... so there has been four big weddings in almost less than a year right? Wow, it's quite amazing actually if you see (laughs). But, they all look beautiful and I feel happy for all of them.
Talking further about the pictures from such events, she said,
You do feel a little sentimental. I think as human beings we all want to feel loved and we all want to be loved and a wedding is always a reminder of romanticism and that wonderful feeling that you have when you are in love.

The Anjuna police registered an accidental case against the actor's driver, Abbas Ali, and arrested him. They also recorded Zareen Khan's statement for the same.

Bollywood is an unpredictable place and the controversies related to it proves just the same. So, as we are all set to bid adieu to the year, here are 6 Bollywood controversies that grabbed headlines.
Bollywood controversies of 2018 | Photo Credit: Instagram
This year has been quite eventful for Bollywood, not just in terms of movies, but in terms of controversies as well. While films like Sanju, Raazi, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and more left us entertained, controversies surrounding Bollywood were also a matter of concern for the film fraternity. Here are 6 of the most talked-about controversies of Bollywood that took place this year.
1. Sarkar row. The film might have been a hit but it stirred a lot of controversies. Soon after the release of Sarkar, a huge protest was staged against the movie by AIADMK ministers and workers who claimed that it questioned the policies of the government and also was in bad taste. In the latest development, one more FIR has been filed against the director of Sarkar AR Murgadoss in the Madras High Court.

2. Death threats to Salman Khan. With the success of Tiger Zinda Hai, 2018 definitely started on a good note for Salman Khan but little did he know that while he was basking in the glory, he will get a death threat too. According to a report by Indiatimes, when one of the most notorious gangsters, Lawrence Bishnoi was being produced in the court for extorting and terrorizing traders, he issued a death threat to Salman Khan saying, "Salman Khan will be killed here, in Jodhpur... Then he will come to know about our real identity." For the uninitiated, Lawrence Bishnoi belongs to the same Bishnoi community that took Salman Khan to the court for the black buck poaching case.
3. Tanushree Dutta’s sexual harassment allegations against Nana Patekar. Tanushree Dutta left the entire nation shocked when she made a big revelation on Zoom TV that started India's very own MeToo movement. The former Miss India and actress revealed that Nana Patekar harassed her on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss... and choreographer Ganesh Acharya also helped him. She also claimed that Vivek Agnihotri, the director of her first film, Chocolate, asked her to strip and dance so that Irrfan Khan could give the perfect expression for a shot. While Tanushree and Nana have both taken legal routes, the verdict of the case is still not out.

4. The Padmaavat row. The magnum opus of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat, which was earlier known as Padmavati stirred controversies that made the film a hot topic. Right from Deepika’s dance on the song Ghoomar as Rani Padmavati to her performing Johar in the film, everything was not just questioned but heavily criticised as well. Not just various Rajput groups, but Karni Sena as well protested against the film, burning the dummies of Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In fact, BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu went on to say that he will give Rs 10 crore to the person who will behead Deepika.
5. Priyanka Chopra stepping out of Bharat. Bharat is one of those films that has managed to grab eyeballs even before it releases. And the first reason for it to hit the headlines was Priyanka Chopra stepping in and then stepping out the film at the 11th hour. While the director of the film, Ali Abbas Zafar took to Twitter to share a cryptic post suggesting Priyanka left due to her marriage plans with Nick Jonas, speculations of her leaving the film due to the length of her role were also rife. Priyanka quitting the movie after signing it apparently left Salman miffed. However, the actor denied it. He went on to say that PeeCee called his sister Arpita many times to get this role but never cleared her stance on why she left Bharat.
6. Kedarnath controversy. This Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer has been in troubled waters ever since the movie went on the floors. Initially, the news of Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment selling the film to three different producers without the knowledge anyone else left people startled. And, when that issue was settled then news of Kedarnath's director Abhishek Kapoor taking Sara Ali Khan to the court for giving the same dates to Simmba as Kedarnath started doing the rounds. And, as if all these issues were not enough, ahead of the release of the film, several PIL's were filed against it suggesting that it promoted love jihad and also for showing a love story in the backdrop of a tragedy as big as the Kedarnath one of 2013. It didn't stop there, after the release of the film too it was criticised as a result of which it has been banned in Uttarakhand. However, director Abhishek Kapoor has pleaded to the government to lift the ban but no decision has been taken yet.

Pictures of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's daughter Suhana, reportedly shooting for a short film, are going viral. The pictures have been shared by various fan clubs of Suhana on Instagram, which feature her sitting inside a car for a shoot sequence. Suhana is dressed in a green top and a pair of flared jeans. "Shoot for a short film," read the caption. Suhana, who studies in London, has previously talked about her dream of becoming an actor. In her interview to Vogue (she was on the cover of the magazine's August edition), Suhana said, "I don't think there was any one moment when I decided. Since I was young, I'd do all these accents and impressions. But my parents only realised I was serious about acting when they saw a performance of mine for the first time. I was playing Miranda in a school performance of The Tempest."
Here are the pictures from Suhana's shoot. (It appears to be for a college assignment).
Last week, SRK flew to London to watch Suhana's play, in which she played Juliet. On Instagram, he shared a picture of himself with Suhana and a cut-out from the poster of the play. "I have always made unconventional choices because it comes from my instincts. I have been successful with those unconventional choices. I have made a career with unconventional choices and that's why I have created a different standing for myself in the film industry," Anushka told PTI.
"I believe luck favours the brave. I wasn't doing it thinking it is risky. I was doing it because that made sense for me. For me following my instincts is an easier thing," she added. The producer of critically acclaimed films like NH 10, Phillauri and Pari said the focus on content has helped her company Clean Slate Films flourish.
"Whether content is in a big or a small film, it will always work. Audience looks for entertainment. If anyone thinks they are above content then they are making a big mistake. Content is over stars, directors or everything else," she added.
After doing back-to-back films, Anushka has decided to take time in choosing a new project as she now feels a bit secure about her place in the industry. "I felt I was working round the clock and my life is in the hands of everybody and whoever I had to give time to. I want to take time and pick films that I want to choose. I am in talks with few people.
"I have reached a level of security and position where I can take the time to do a film that I want to do. I am not a newcomer who has to do films for the heck of it. Even when I was a newcomer I was not doing it. I am ok with that. I have gained that position," she said.
The actor, however, has no plans to go slow when it comes to production.
"The show that we are doing for Amazon Prime Video and for Netflix does require time. If I am producing a film in which I am acting, I have taken out time from my schedule to do it. Here I have to take out time.
"It is a behind-the-scene job so one might not see it but that requires time. I am an actor who produces films also. And that is not slowing down," she said.
Anushka, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming film Zero with Shah Rukh and Katrina Kaif, is yet to sign any new project.
There were also reports of her soon starting the work on her next production Kaneda to be directed by NH 10 helmer Navdeep Singh, but Anushka said right now her banner is only focusing on ties with Prime Video and Netflix.

Zaheer Iqbal, who is celebrating his birthday today told Mumbai Mirror about his acting aspirations. He said, "The keeda had bitten me when I was a child. I used to converse in film dialogues and sway to the beat of Bollywood chartbusters whenever the opportunity presented itself. Salman bhai spotted me dancing at my sister’s sangeet and as soon as I got off the stage, he told me, “I am launching you, start training.”" He continued, "I’m told that when I was kid, bhai called up dad one day and asked, “Hero kahan hai? Bhejo usko neeche.” When I came running down, he drove me to the studio where he was shooting. That was the first time I was on a film set. Back then, I didn’t know he was a superstar, for me he was just chachu. Years later, he came to my college for an annual function and seeing me wear my hair long, sighed, “Yeh drug zone mein chala gaya hai.” (Chuckles) He was happier when he saw me at the wedding—by then I had cut my hair short."
Pranutan, on the other hand, revealed about her acting job, she said, "Salman sir called my dad from the US and asked him to send me for an audition. Immediately after, he called dad again to say, “You are in trouble my friend, your daughter is soon going to be a heroine.”"

New Delhi:
"With my Juliet in London. What a wonderful experience and exceptional performances by the whole cast. Congratulations to the whole team," the 53-year-old actor wrote.
Suhana Khan, 18, is Shah Rukh and Gauri's middle child. Her elder brother Aryan, 20, studies in California, while younger brother AbRam, 5, stays in Mumbai.
On the work front Shah Rukh Khan is currently awaiting the release of Zero, his film with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Zero, directed by Aanand L Rai, releases on December 21.

1. "I created a different standing for myself in the industry," said Anushka
2. I have always made unconventional choices,' she added
3. "I believe luck favours the brave," Anushka also said
Anushka Sharma has completed 10 years in the movie business and the actor believes the reason for her successful run are the "unconventional" choices she has made as a performer, producer and an entrepreneur. Anushka, who carved a niche with films like Band Baaja Baaraat, PK, Sultan, NH10, made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2008 blockbuster Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

December 07, 2018 14:42 IST
Trailers are key to the way an audience perceives a movie and hence a big part of the lifecycle of a movie.
Run down the recent string of hits by Bollywood, Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun, Raazi and many such, and the common factor is that the first look of these movies was released on YouTube.
In 2018, all the trailer releases so far, barring just a couple, have been on YouTube, with producers stepping away from television and movie exhibition theatres as the first point of engagement with audiences.
And as more, small budget films have taken to digital trailer releases with greater gusto, it has helped expand Bollywood's Rs 1 billion club.
